XContest Season Wrap Up 2022

(April 1st 2021 to March 31st 2022)

Another epic season finished with lots of huge flights taking place. Again, the south was cranking with most of the season's big flights. A number of new site records tumbled across both the islands. No surprise that the southern club won the club competition with almost double the points of second place. Big congratulations to Louis who has again won the XC Championship for the 4^th season in a row.

Lots of great XC competitions also taking place this season and a big shout out to all the event organizers around the country in such difficult times with gatherings.

Here's a few highlights:

• A ripper of a flight from Chris Connolly and Kinga!
  (Connolly, 174km, Coronet Peak), (Kinga, 142km, Speed peak)
• Another big out and back from Louis, (Tapper, 193km, Long Gully)
• High scoring flight in the North Island from Shaun Gilbert, (Gilbert, 112km, Te Mata Peak)

Hang Gliding Added to XContest

An Hang Gliding XC competition has been officially added to the New Zealand National XC Championship. You will notice at the left of the XContest New Zealand XC Champs landing page a list of new Hang Gliding Categories. All New Zealand Hang Glider pilots are encouraged to submit their flights and join in the competition.

The PG and HG XC Championships are individual competitions and are scored separately. Lets get in behind this effort to share flights, engage in some friendly competition and to hone our flying skills.

WXC Registration

The New Zealand XContest league has been linked up with the FAI/CIVL WXC.

"The philosophy of the WXC is to connect current and new online contests into a network of contests. Pilots use their favorite contest to claim flights. Without any additional step the flight is also claimed to the CIVL WXC contest, along with flights from pilots all over the world."

Pilots with a vaild CIVL ID on their XContest profile will automatically have their flights sent to the WXC, no other work required.

(April 1st 2019 to March 31st 2020)

Big shout out to all pilots who flew and logged their flights in our biggest season to date. A total of 1923 flights, which has almost doubled in two seasons. We had 12 flights over 100km including Louis’ record breaking 196km triangle. A bunch of site records broken and from all accounts a pretty cracking season. Congratulations to Louis who has won the championship for the 2^nd season in a row.

Here are a few highlights:

• A 196km FAI triangle, (Tapper, 196km, Treble Cone)
• A 124km North Island flat triangle, (Tapper, 124km, Kaimai)
• A new open distance record for Kaimai (MacDonald, 84.1km, Kaimai)
• A new open distance record for Moirs Hill (Ripley, 98.2km, Moirs Hill)
• This epic flight across the alps (Hughes-Games, 107km, Mt Murchison)
• Biggest non-triangle free-flight (Karnik, 130km, Coronet Peak)
• Twelve NZ 100km+ flights

This current season is already kicking off with a few XC flights down south and we are looking forward to an epic summer!
